Client Challenge:
In order to comply with the California Marine Oil Terminal Engineering and Maintenance Standards (MOTEMS), the most stringent standards in the world for the operation of marine terminals, Anvil’s client needed a full overhaul of existing structures. These updates were required to allow the client to continue operating.
Anvil Solution:
Anvil formed a team to provide a comprehensive program management solution for the suite of projects planned. This included full project management, engineering and procurement services from project inception through construction, including:
– P&IDs, layouts, drawings, and other documents to support construction
– Material requisitions, technical bid tabulation, and quotation summaries
– Vendor drawing reviews
– Cost reporting, cash flow, and TIC estimates
Based off of Anvil laser scans and 3D models, a modular design approach was used to design, fabricate and construct the piping, decks, frame and equipment on shore. The modules were transported by barge and set on engineered piles.
Results:
Following completion of the project, this integrated wharf design set a new standard for safety, operations and maintenance for marine oil terminals. Improvements included a new berth, new product loading system, fire protection, emergency power generators, a new control building and emergency evacuation systems. The client felt the design set a new benchmark for their wharf safety upgrades, and continues to set the standard today.
